Atlantis Rising | The Beginnings

Victoria tilted her head to the side, as she looked at the massive hospital building in New York, the crowds on the sidewalks eddying around her.

She took a small breath, flicked away an imaginary piece of lint from her cream Chanel coat and dress and walked into the hospital, a tinge of color surrounding everyone she looked at. But none were the shade she was looking for. Something tickled her, like wings beating the air, and she turned the corner, stopping a little ways away.

Right color but he was with two Fae? Seelie, based on the sun tinging their auras. Not a good idea, though to be handing out Savas' true name. She stepped back, asking a woman dressed in blue scrubs a question. So he was using a different name, then.

Victoria pasted on her princess smile, eyes wide as she approached, almost as if she actually knew him.

"Gareth Anderson? It is you! I thought I saw you and well, here you are." She smiled, dropping her little shield as she looked at the first dragon she's seen not hibernating since she's been on the surface for the past five years. She found five hibernating dragons and dens where they had been, but he was the first to actually be awake. She shoved down the tiny frisson of awareness, for it really wasn't the time. She was there to save Atlantis, not slobber over a dragon, even if he was hot.

There was a glint of amusement in his eyes as Savas listened to the easy banter between the pair of Fae standing before him. The awkwardness of the unexpected reunion had just about faded, replaced with a fond irony that his one time summer fling was now the wife of his former student. The world was such a terribly small place sometimes. Still, he could not stop the warm smile that tugged at his lips: Aidan and Saoirse already seemed attached at the hip even by newlywed standards. Good. Both of them deserved all of the happiness they could claim for themselves. He only hoped that their closeness did not cool once the honeymoon period was over.

Saoirse had just announced that she and Aidan should let him get back to work when he heard someone call out his human name. A small frown of confusion flitted across his face as he turned towards the voice. Approaching him was a woman he had certainly never seen before, for all that she seemed to know him. Then her shield dropped, and a painful sort of familiarity shot through him like a lance, thoroughly erasing his good mood. Biding a quick goodbye to the two Fae he met Victoria's gaze with a cold glare.

"I'm sorry, but have we met?" he asked, his voice still professionally light and welcoming in contrast with the unfriendly look he was giving her.

The usual hustle and bustle of the emergency department faded to white noise. It was not busy by NYC standards, which would ordinarily be a blessing, but as he stood there he found himself glancing towards the doors and yearning for a trauma to roll in. His skin crawled at the faint murmuring of Atlantean words and Savas clenched his jaw, his gaze returning to the woman that dared to utter such language in front of him.

"Those services are no longer being offered. I got out of that business a long time ago," he told her. There was a hint of draconic growling behind his words that matched the unfriendly glare narrowing his eyes.
