First Meetings ; Dragon Triad, or, the day Kai gets a crush.
Choosing his own Leader of the Royal Guard was Kai's first decision made without the need for his Regent to approve, and Kai hoped it would be a good one.
Savas was highly recommended from both his previous Leader and the Regent, who had taken over Kai's upbringing after the deaths of both his parents when Kai was only two. It was a bit nerve-wracking waiting, though, giving him too much time to worry over how they would work together and if he would judge Kai based on his father's behavior. Many of the Council did, so why not his Guard? Well. If that was the case, he would find one less inclined to judge.
Smoothing his jacket down, Kai watched the doors swing open, the butler announcing the arrival of Savas. He gulped when he saw him, eyes widening just a bit before he controlled himself, hiding the flush of warmth filling his entire body. He shouldn't be feeling that he told himself, not with the betrothal to Nyra and her planned arrival to the city in eighteen months' time.
He watched Savas approach his chair, his face hopefully impassive, but his eyes cataloging everything about Savas' appearance and demeanor.
